BJ Cole pedal steel guitar
BJ Cole is renowned as an innovator on the pedal steel guitar, having carved out a formidable reputation as a session musician and established his own artistic identity with the release of five albums. He has recorded with many of the great names in popular music, among them Elton John, Marc Bolan, Scott Walker, Beck, Björk, Sting, David Sylvian, Depeche Mode and The Verve.
In a career spanning four decades he has been a pioneer in the British post-psychedelic scene, a fearless experimenter with leading artists in the avant-garde and ambient fields, and a tireless collaborator with many DJs. With recordings such as Transparent Music (otherworldly renditions of Debussy’s Clair de Lune and Satie’s Gnossiennes alongside his own experiments in ambient composition) and Stop the Panic with Luke Vibert, and with Harold Budd, John Cale, Groove Armada, Bent, Kumo and Alabama 3, among many others, he has led the way in building a new, sophisticated and international repertory for the pedal steel guitar.
