Daniel Lanois- producer
Daniel Lanois is a Canadian record producer, guitarist and singer-songwriter. He has released a number of albums of his own work and produced albums for a wide variety of artists, including Bob Dylan, U2, Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson and Sinéad O’Connor. He collaborated with Brian Eno on projects including the theme song for David Lynch’s film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune, following which Eno invited him to co-produce U2’s album The Unforgettable Fire and subsequent CDs, among them Achtung Baby and the GRAMMY Award-winning The Joshua Tree (1987 Album of the Year) and All That You Can’t Leave Behind (2001 Best Rock Album). On the recommendation of Bono (of U2), he was introduced to Bob Dylan, for whom he produced Oh Mercy (1989) and Time Out of Mind, winner of the 1997 GRAMMY for Album of the Year. Wrecking Ball, his collaboration with Emmylou Harris, won the previous year’s GRAMMY for Best Contemporary Folk Album. In 1998 he produced and appeared on Willie Nelson’s 200th album, Teatro, contributing his own song ‘The Maker’, playing electric guitar, bass and Omnichord, and taking the photograph for the cover. In 2005 he was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame, since when projects have included a CD and documentary, both entitled Here Is What Is; a further collaboration with U2 and Brian Eno on No Line on the Horizon, where he was involved in the songwriting process as well as mixing and production; and four concerts at the 2008 Festival International de Jazz de Montréal.
